  • Reverse
The central part features the denomination '5' flanked left and right by six-pointed stars. Above the denomination is the Imperial crown. Below the numeral is the name of the monetary unit 'КОПѢЕКЪ' (KOPEKS). Further below is the year of mintage '1861', visually separated from the upper part of the coin by two ornamental lines with five dots between them. Below the year is the abbreviation 'С.П.Б.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the edge, a laurel branch is on the left and an oak branch on the right. The branches are tied together at the bottom with a ribbon forming a bow. The rim is decorated with raised denticles.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the lesser coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle. Both eagle heads bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is placed above and between them. All three are connected by the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. On the eagle's breast is the Moscow coat of arms, a shield depicting St. George the Victorious slaying a dragon with a spear. Surrounding the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. The coats of arms on the wings (four on each wing) are: Kazan, Polish, Taurida, Astrakhan, Siberian, Georgian, Kiev and Novgorod, Vladimir. In the eagle's right talon is a scepter, and in the left an orb. Below the right talon is the letter 'Ф' (F), and below the left talon is the letter 'Б' (B). These are the initials of mintmaster Fedor (Fyodor) Blum. The rim is decorated with denticles.
