Reverse
The upper part of the coin features the crown of the Russian Empire. The center is occupied by a four-line inscription: GOSUDAR= STVENNAYA ROSSIYSKAYA MONETA. Below the inscription is the abbreviation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the left edge of the coin is a laurel branch, and along the right edge, an oak branch. At the base, the branches are tied together with a ribbon forming a bow. The rim is decorated with prominent denticles pointing inward.
Obverse
The central part depicts the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two imperial crowns, with a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Surrounding the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. Below the right talon is the letter 'A', and below the left, the letter 'I'. These are the initials of mintmaster Alexander Ivanov. The central part is enclosed within a circular border. Outside the border, along the edge, are circular inscriptions: above the eagle — '1803', the year of mintage. To the right of the date is a small circle with a raised dot in its center. To the left of the emblem is the circular inscription 'MONETA', and to the right 'POLTINA', separated from each other by a small circle with a raised dot in its center. The rim is decorated with denticles.
