    Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right are the words '500TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNIFIED RUSSIAN STATE'. In the center is the monument to Peter I erected in Saint Petersburg — the Bronze Horseman by Étienne Falconet. Below, along the rim, are the words 'MONUMENT TO PETER I'.

    In the upper part of the coin is the State Emblem of the USSR, encircled by a ribbon (15 turns), below it the letters 'USSR'. Further down, to the left and right, is a line. Under the line on the left are the chemical symbol Au and the fineness 900 of the coin's metal, below them the pure weight of the precious metal '15.55'. Under the line on the right is the manufacturer's (mint) mark 'MMD'. Slightly lower is the coin's denomination, the numeral '100', and below it the word 'RUBLES'. At the edge of the lower part is the year of mintage '1990'.
