On the central disc – a fragment of the fortress wall with a tower of the Rostov Kremlin (17th century), on the left – the Church of the Mother of God Odigitria (1698), on the right – the Church of St. John the Theologian (1683). On the outer ring at the bottom, the circumferential inscription: ROSTOV.
Obverse
In the upper part along the rim arc is the coin's denomination 'FIVE RUBLES'. Slightly below on the left is the metal's designation from Mendeleev's periodic table, Au, and fineness 999. Below in the center is the year of mintage '2004'. At the bottom right is the pure weight of the precious metal in the outer ring '23.30' and the manufacturer's (mint) mark 'MMD'. In the center, within a circle of dots, is a double-headed eagle. Along the inner arc of the circle, the inscription BANK OF RUSSIA. To the left of the eagle is the chemical designation Ag and fineness 925, to the right is the pure weight of the precious metal in the central insert '19.20'.
