    The central part features a cartouche with a two-line inscription: ГРИВЕННИКЪ (GRIVENNIK). Below the inscription is the year of mintage — 1775. Above the cartouche is the crown of the Russian Empire. To the left and right, two laurel branches extend from the cartouche's vignettes.

    The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of Russian Empress Catherine II. On the lower left part of the portrait, the initials 'T•I•' are struck, indicating the medallist Timofei Ivanov. In the lower part, beneath the portrait, is the abbreviation 'С П Б' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the edge, an inscription runs in an arc from the lower left: Б•М•ЕКАТЕРИНА•II•IМП•IСАМОД•ВСЕРОСС• (B•M•CATHERINE•II•EMP•AUTOCRAT•OF ALL RUSSIA).
