Below the inscription runs a decorative line with a diamond in the middle and the abbreviation С.П.Б. (Saint Petersburg Mint). In the central part is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread and lowered. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The heraldic shield, above the eagle's heads, is crowned with the imperial crown. The eagle holds thunderbolts and a torch in its right talon and a laurel wreath in its left, all entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. Below the ribbon are the letters: on the left 'Ф', on the right 'Г'. The initials of Mintmaster Fedor Gelman. Above the eagle is the denomination designation — the circular inscription 'ПЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ.'. Below the eagle — the year of minting '1817 ГОДА.'. The rim is decorated with short denticles.
