The center is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread, both heads wearing crowns, with a larger third crown above and between the heads. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. On the eagle's tail is the letter 'L'. This is the mintmaster's mark of Johann Luvis LANG (Иоганн Лювис ЛАНГ — in Russian interpretation Ivan LANG). Around the eagle, the text reads: МОНЕТА НОВАѦ ЦЕНА ПОЛТИНА ҂АѰѲI (1719). The coin's edge is decorated with a twisted dotted border.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by a right-facing profile portrait of Peter I, crowned with a laurel wreath. Around the portrait, the text reads: ЦРЬ ПЕТРЪ АЛЕѯIЕВИЧЪ ВСЕѦ РОСИI САМОДЕРЖЕЦЪ. The rim of the coin consists of denticles.
