In the central part is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire - a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two crowns, a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow - a shield with St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is on the right). Around the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left an orb. Under the right talon is the letter 'M', under the left - 'K'. The initials of mintmaster Mikhail Kleiner. In the upper part, above the eagle, along the rim is the circular inscription '1809' - the year of mintage. To the right of the date is a small circle with a raised dot in the center. To the left of the coat of arms is the circular inscription 'МОНЕТА' (COIN), to the right - 'ПОЛТИНА' (POLTINA). The rim is decorated with denticles.
