Reverse The central part features the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two coronets, and a third, larger crown above them. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left an orb. On the eagle's breast is a shield with the denomination — the numeral 20. Around the eagle, along the edge, are 20 dots. The dots are divided into four groups of five dots each (symbolizing the coin's denomination). Below the eagle, on a stylized ribbon, is the year of mintage — '1774'.
Obverse The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of Russian Empress Catherine II. On the lower left part of the portrait are the mintmaster's initials 'T•I•', indicating Timofei Ivanov. In the lower part, beneath the portrait, is the abbreviation 'S P B' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the edge, in an arc from the lower left, runs the inscription: B•M•EKATERINA•II•IMP•ISAMOD•VSEROSS•
