Reverse
The central part features a cartouche with a two-line inscription: ГРИВЕННИКЪ (GRIVENNIK). Below the inscription is the year of mintage — 1776. Above the cartouche is the crown of the Russian Empire. To the left and right, two laurel branches extend from the cartouche's vignettes.
Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of the Russian Empress Catherine II. On the lower left part of the portrait are the initials 'T•I•', indicating the medallist Timofey Ivanov. In the lower part, below the portrait, is the abbreviation 'С П Б' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the edge, an inscription runs in an arc from the lower left: Б•М•ЕКАТЕРИНА•II•IМП•IСАМОД•ВСЕРОСС• (B•M•CATHERINE•II•EMP•AUTOCRAT•OF ALL RUSSIA).
