The center features the coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread, both heads wearing crowns, with a larger third crown above and between them. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left an orb. On the eagle's right leg or tail is the letter 'L'. This is the mintmaster's mark of Johann Luvis LANG (Иоганн Лювис ЛАНГ — in Russian interpretation Ivan LANG). Around the eagle is the text: МОНЕТА НОВАѦ ЦЕНА РУБЛЬ ҂АѰИI (1718). The coin's edge is bordered by a twisted dotted rim.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse features the right-facing profile of Peter I, crowned with a laurel wreath. In the sleeve truncation are the letters 'OK', the initials of the engraver Osip Kalashnikov. A circular inscription runs along the edge: ЦРЬ • ПЕТРЬ • АЛЕѯIЕВИЧЪ • ВСЕѦ • РОСИI • САМОДЕРЖЕЦЬ • (TSAR • PETER • ALEXEEVICH • OF ALL • RUSSIA • AUTOCRAT •). The rim has a braided rope-like appearance.
