The central shield features the Coat of Arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with scepter and orb. The top shield is the Moscow coat of arms, the bottom is the coat of arms of the Siberian Tsardom. The left shield is the coat of arms of the Astrakhan Tsardom, the right is the Kazan Tsardom. The top shield is crowned with an imperial crown, the three other shields are crowned with tsarist crowns. Between the circular coats of arms are four small roses, above them the digits of the issue year: 1 '7', 5 '9'. Around the circumference, along the rim, the text: IМПРСКАЯ 'РОССÏИС' 'МОН•ЦЕНА' 'ПЯТЬ•РУБ', divided into four parts by crowns.

From left to right along the arc near the edge runs the inscription: Б•М•ЕЛИСАВЕТЪ•I•IМП•IСАМОД•ВСЕРОС. In the lower part, beneath the portrait, is the abbreviation 'С П Б' (Saint Petersburg Mint).
