  • Reverse
The center of the reverse is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire—a double-headed eagle, both heads wearing crowns. A third, larger crown is above and between them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow—a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left an orb. Below the right talon is the letter 'I', and below the left talon the letter 'S'. These are the initials of mintmaster Ivan Sabelnikov. Above the eagle is the year of mintage: '1796'. Around the state coat of arms, following the curve from right to left, is the inscription: МОНЕТА • РꙊБЛЬ. The edge is reeded.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse features the right-facing profile of the Russian Empress Catherine II. On the lower left part of the portrait are the letters 'T.I.', indicating the medallist Timofey Ivanov. At the bottom, beneath the portrait, is the abbreviation 'С П Б' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the edge, following the curve from the lower left, is the inscription: Б•М•ЕКАТЕРИНА•II•IМП•ИСАМОД•ВСЕРОСС•. The edge is reeded.
