The center is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread, both heads wearing crowns, with a larger third crown above and between the heads. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. On the right talon or on the eagle's tail — the letter 'L'. This is the mintmaster's mark of Johann Luvis LANG (Иоганн Лювис ЛАНГ — in Russian interpretation Ivan LANG). Around the eagle, the text reads: МОНЕТА НОВАѦ ЦЕНА РУБЛЬ ҂АѰИI (1718). The coin's edge is decorated with a twisted dotted border.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse features a right-facing portrait of Peter I, crowned with a laurel wreath. In the sleeve truncation are the letters 'OK', the initials of the engraver Osip Kalashnikov. A circular inscription runs along the edge: ЦРЬ • ПЕТРЬ • АЛЕѯIЕВИЧЪ • ВСЕѦ • РОСИI • САМОДЕРЖЕЦЬ • (TSAR • PETER • ALEXEEVICH • OF ALL • RUSSIA • AUTOCRAT •). The rim has a braided rope-like appearance.
