The center is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread, both heads wearing crowns, with a larger third crown above and between the heads. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. On the eagle's right talon is the letter 'L'. This is the mintmaster's mark of Johann Luvis LANG (Иоганн Лювис ЛАНГ — in Russian interpretation Ivan LANG). Around the eagle is the text: МАНЕТА НОВАѦ ЦЕНА РУБЛЬ ҂АѰИI (1718). The edge of the coin features a twisted dotted border.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of Peter I, crowned with a laurel wreath. In the sleeve truncation are the letters 'KO', the initials of the medallist Osip Kalashnikov. A circular inscription runs along the edge: ЦРЬ • ПЕТРЬ • АЛЕѯIЕВИЧЪ • ВСЕѦ • РОСИI • САМОДЕРЖЕЦЬ • The rim appears as a braided rope.
