Reverse The central part features five shields arranged in a cross. The central shield depicts the Coat of Arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with scepter and orb. The top shield is the Moscow coat of arms, the bottom is the Siberian Kingdom's. The left shield is the Astrakhan Kingdom's coat of arms, the right is the Kazan Kingdom's. The top shield is crowned with an imperial crown, the other three with royal crowns. Between the circular coats of arms are four small roses, above them the digits of the year of issue: 1, '7', '9', '6'. Along the edge of the coin's reverse is the inscription: ♚ IMPERIAL ♛ RUSSIAN ♛ COIN•VALUE ♛ TEN•RUB. The crown at the top of the reverse is imperial, the other three crowns are royal.
Obverse The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of Empress Catherine II. Around the portrait is the text: B•M•CATHERINE•II•IMP•AUTOCRAT•OF ALL RUSSIA•. On the lower left part of the portrait are the letters 'T•I', indicating the medallist Timofey Ivanov. In the lower part, below the portrait, is the abbreviation 'S P B' (Saint Petersburg Mint).
