In the upper part of the coin is the crown of the Russian Empire. In the center, the denomination is struck—the number 20. Below the denomination is the name of the monetary unit "KOPѢЕКЪ". Below that is a line, under which is the abbreviation "S.P.B." (Saint Petersburg Mint). On the left side of the coin along the edge is a laurel branch, and on the right an oak branch. At the base, the branches are tied together with a ribbon. Raised denticles are struck along the coin's edge.
  • Obverse
In the center is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire—a double-headed eagle with wings spread and lowered. Above the eagle's heads is the imperial crown. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow—a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The eagle holds thunderbolts and a torch in its right talon and a laurel wreath in its left, entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. Below the ribbon are the letters: on the left "N", on the right "G". The initials of Mintmaster Nikolai Grachev. Below the initials is the year of mintage "1831 GODA.". The rim is decorated with short denticles.
