Reverse Along the upper edge, a Latin inscription reads 'PORTUGALIAE. E. ALGARBIORUM P.REGENS', translating to 'Prince Regent of Portugal and the Algarve'. The start and end of the inscription are separated by a raised eight-petaled flower. In the center is a wreath formed by two olive branches tied at the base with a bow. Within the wreath is the Roman numeral 10 'X', separating the mint year '18 13'. Below is a raised quatrefoil.
Obverse The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles. Along the rim are Latin inscriptions: on the right '.JOANNES .', on the left 'DEI . GRATIA', translating to 'João by the Grace of God'. In the center is the coat of arms of Portugal crowned with an imperial crown: on the heraldic shield, five escutcheons with bezants are arranged in a cross form, and the large shield is surrounded by a wide, indented bordure with seven castles. The heraldic shield is framed by raised decorative elements in the Rococo style.
