    In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of a sterlet fish. Along the edge of the coin is its name in Ukrainian: «СТЕРЛЯДЬ ПРIСНОВОДНА», and on the left, bottom, and right in Latin: «ACIPENSER RUTENUS», which translates as: 'Freshwater Sterlet'.

    In the central part is an inscription in Ukrainian: «НАЦIОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ», which translates as: 'National Bank of Ukraine'. Above it is the coat of arms of Ukraine. Below it is a semicircular inscription in three lines: «2 ГРИВНI» - 2 (two) hryvnias and the year of mintage 2012. In the lower part, along the arc of the coin's edge, is the mint mark of the Kyiv Mint. Along the edge of the coin is a decorative wreath element, featuring various representatives of flora and fauna.
