    Around the edge of the coin, an inscription in Latin reads «PORTUG ET ALGARBIORUM REGINA», which translates to «Queen of Portugal and the Algarves». In the central part, a wreath formed by olive and oak branches, tied at the base with a bow. Inside the wreath is the Roman numeral 5 «V». On either side of it are two six-petaled rosettes. Below, the year of minting «1833».
  • Obverse
    Around the edge of the coin, in the left, bottom, and right parts, an inscription in Latin reads «MARIA II DEI GRATIA», translating to «Maria II by the Grace of God». In the central part, the coat of arms of Portugal: a heraldic shield crowned with an imperial crown. On the shield, arranged in the form of a cross, are five small Portuguese shields with bezants. Around the edge of the large shield is a wide, indented border with seven castles.
