On the right, on a lower fir branch, is the 'R' mintmark of the Rhode Island mint.
  • Obverse
The central part features the coat of arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, which is a round disc with an angel framed by two interlocking chains. Along the outer edge of the disc at the top is the state name in English 'REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS', and at the bottom is the motto in Marshallese 'JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN', meaning 'Accomplishment Through Joint Effort'. Two rays emanate upward from the angel's head, between which is a twenty-four-pointed star. Above the angel's wings: on the right is a fishing net, on the left is a shell tool. Below the wings: on the right is a canoe, on the left are coconut palms. Below the angel is an image of a traditional Marshallese navigational chart in perspective, beneath which is the inscription on a ribbon 'Seal'. Outside the chain, to the left of the disc, is the $5 sign, and to the right is the year of mintage '1994'.
