    In the central part are two kangaroos facing right: one sitting on its hind legs, the other in motion. In the upper part, along the curve of the coin's edge, is the English text: 'KANGAROO'. To its left, consisting of two characters arranged vertically, is the same inscription in Chinese. Along the curve of the lower edge is the inscription: '$5' - five dollars.

    In the central part is the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia. To its left is the number '19', to its right '97' - the year of mintage 1997. In the upper part, along the curve of the coin's edge, is the name of the country, Republic of Liberia, in English: 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA'. In the lower part, along the curve of the coin's edge, separated by dots, is the inscription in English: '5 DOLLARS' - five dollars. The edge of the coin features decorative elements in the form of denticles.
