    Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised dots. Along the upper edge of the coin is text in Catalan 'D LUIZ I REI DE PORTUGAL', translating to 'D. Luiz I King of Portugal'. In the central part is a left-facing profile portrait of the king. Below the portrait truncation is the signature of the artist Frederico Augusto de Campos 'F.A.C'.
