    In the central part, a Triskelion – the heraldic symbol of the Isle of Man, consisting of three armored legs bent at the knee, running clockwise, joined at the thigh in a common center and equally spaced. Along the upper edge of the coin is the national motto in Latin 'QUOCUNQUE IECERIS STABIT' (Whithersoever you throw it, it will stand). Dots separate the words. The rim features raised denticles.
  • Obverse
    In the center is a fragment of the family crest of the Earls of Derby – a crest. It depicts an ermine cap, above which an eagle to left with wings displayed, preying upon an infant swaddled in cloth. Along the denticulated rim are inscriptions: at the top in French 'SANS CHANGER' (Without change), with dots between the words, and at the bottom the year of minting '1709'.
