    On the left, a launch vehicle is depicted facing right against the backdrop of the moon. Below it is English text and the year the rocket delivered a spacecraft to lunar orbit: 'PIONEER OF SPACE 1969'. On the right, a cameo with a portrait of Wernher von Braun. Above the portrait, the engineer's name in German and his years of life: 'WERNHER VON BRAUN 1912-1977'. Along the upper edge of the coin is the inscription in English: 'INVENTIONS OF THE MODERN WORLD'. Along the lower edge in two lines: '1 CROWN'.
