Reverse Along the upper edge, the Latin inscription 'PORTUGALIAE BRASILIAE ET ALGARB REX', meaning 'King of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves'. In the center, a wreath formed by two olive branches tied at the base with a bow. Within the wreath, the Roman numeral 10 'X' separates the mint year '18 24'.
Obverse The rim features decorative raised denticles. Along the border are Latin inscriptions: on the right 'JOANNES VI', on the left 'DEI GRATIA', translating to 'John the Sixth by the Grace of God'. The words are separated by quatrefoils. In the center, the crowned middle coat of arms of Portugal: a heraldic shield on an armillary sphere, surmounted by an imperial crown. The shield displays five escutcheons arranged in a cross, each with bezants, surrounded by a wide, tressure border with seven castles.
