Reverse In the central part is the coat of arms of the Brazilian Empire, pattern 1831-1889 - a shield surmounted by a crown. Along the left edge of the coin is a coffee branch, on the right a tobacco branch, which cross at the bottom and are tied with a bow. Above, below, and to the right along the rim is an inscription in Latin: "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES" - "IN THIS SIGN YOU WILL CONQUER". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim edges.
Obverse In the central part is a wreath of coffee leaves and berries. Inside is the numeral: "10". Along the edge of the coin is text in Portuguese: "PETRUS.I.D.G.CONST.IMP.ET.PERP.BRAS.DEF" - "PEDRO I BY THE GRACE OF GOD CONSTITUTIONAL EMPEROR AND PERPETUAL DEFENDER OF BRAZIL", below: "1826R" - the year of mintage and the mintmark of Rio de Janeiro. Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim edges.
