Reverse
Along the upper edge of the coin is an English inscription: on the left 'TO THE HEROES OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC', translated as 'TO THE HEROES OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC'; below '1943 - 1993', where 1943 is the year military actions ended in the North Atlantic, and 1993 is the 50th anniversary of the commemorative date and the year of issue. The central part features a warship, with an exploding ship in the background. Below the image, on the left, is a two-line inscription 'FIVE / DOLLARS', translated from English as 'five dollars'. To the right, above the ship, is the 'R' mint mark of the Rhode Island mint.
Obverse
The central part features the coat of arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, which is a round disc with an angel framed by two interlocking chains. Along the outer edge of the disc, at the top, is the name of the state in English 'REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS', and at the bottom is the motto in Marshallese 'JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN', translated as 'Accomplishment Through Joint Effort'. Two rays emanate upward from the angel's head, between which is a twenty-four-pointed star. Above the angel's wings, on the right, is a fishing net, and on the left is a shell tool. Below the wings: on the right is a canoe, on the left are coconut palms. Below the angel is an image of a traditional Marshallese navigational chart in perspective, beneath it is an inscription on a ribbon 'Seal', translated from English as 'Seal'. Below the outer chain, to the left of the disc, is the $5 sign – 'five dollars', and to the right is the year of mintage '1993'.
