Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised dots. In the central part, within a wreath formed by olive and oak branches tied at the base with a bow, is a two-line inscription 'X / REIS', meaning 'ten reis'. Below the inscription is the year of minting '1882'.

Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised dots. Along the upper edge of the coin is text in Catalan 'D LUIZ I REI DE PORTUGAL', translating to 'D. Luiz I King of Portugal'. In the central part is a left-facing profile portrait of the king. Below the portrait truncation is the artist's signature, Frederico Augusto de Campos, 'F.A.C'.
