Reverse The central part of the reverse features a relief design of the seated goddess Liberty facing left, with a Phrygian cap on a spear in her right hand. Along the arc of the left and right edge of the coin is an inscription in Spanish: 'MEDIO OCTAVO', meaning 'half of an eighth' - 1/16 (real). The coin's edge has decorative raised denticles.
Obverse The central part depicts a bow, a quiver with arrows, and a flag. Along the arc of the coin's edge from left to right runs text in Spanish: 'DEPARTAMENTO DE JALISCO', which translates to 'Department of Jalisco'. In the lower part along the arc of the edge, separated by five-petaled flowers, is the mint year 1860. The coin's edge has decorative raised denticles.
