    The central part depicts symbols of Europe's creative and cultural rebirth: on the left, the Statue of David; on the right, Florence Cathedral – Santa Maria del Fiore; above, Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine. Above the image, the horizontal inscription '2|000'. Around the circumference along the rim are inscriptions in English: at the top 'THE RENAISSANCE QUATTROCENTO', at the bottom '1 CROWN'.

    Centered is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. In the truncation of the portrait are the initials of the British sculptor Raphael David Maklouf – 'RDM'; below the truncation, the Latin letters 'PM' – the mintmark of the Pobjoy Mint, Surrey, United Kingdom. Around the circumference along the rim are inscriptions in English: on the left, the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II'; on the right, the name of the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN' and the year of issue '1998'. The rim is decorated with raised denticles.
