    In the central part, the building of the Ukrainian People's Republic government, guarded by two Red Army soldiers. Below, a four-line inscription in Ukrainian is struck: «80 РОКIВ З ДНЯ ПРОГОЛОШЕННЯ НЕЗАЛЕЖНОСТI», which translates to «80 years since the proclamation of independence» and the date 22.01.1918. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right is an inscription in Ukrainian: «УКРАЇНЬСКА НАРОДНА РЕСПУБЛIКА», which translates to «Ukrainian People's Republic».

    In the central part, the coat of arms of Ukraine is depicted; to its left, a man with a hammer and anvil; to its right, a woman with a sickle and a sheaf of wheat; a child stands on the coat of arms. Above the child's head is the year of mintage, 1998. The people are depicted against a background of leafy branches. Below the coat of arms is a two-line semicircular inscription: «2 ГРИВНI» - 2 Hryvnias. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the country name in Ukrainian: «УКРАЇНА».
