    In the lower part, a man writing on a sheet and a woman in Egyptian attire writing on a clay tablet are depicted kneeling, facing each other. Superimposed across the image is the English text 'FATHER OF THE BALL POINT PEN 1944'. In the upper part, a cameo portrait of Laszlo Biro, with his name 'LAZLO BIRO' and his lifespan '1900-1985' to the left of the portrait. Along the edge of the coin are English inscriptions: at the top 'INVENTIONS OF THE MODERN WORLD', and at the bottom in two lines '1 CROWN'.

    At the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom wearing a crown. In the truncation of the portrait are the initials of the British sculptor Raphael David Maklouf - 'RDM', below the truncation the Latin letters 'PM' - the mintmark of the Pobjoy Mint, Surrey, UK. Around the circumference along the rim are English inscriptions: on the left the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II', on the right the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN' and the year of issue '1995'. The rim is decorated with raised denticles.
