    In the central part, sailing yachts are depicted sailing left towards a port city in Australia. Above is its outline with the city's name in English 'FREMANTLE'. To the left near the rim is a compass rose, above it the heraldic symbol of the island - a triskelion, below the numeral 1. Around the circumference is a wide rim bearing inscriptions in English: at the top in a semicircle 'THE AMERICA'S CUP CHALLENGE FREMANTLE', at the bottom - 'CROWN', flanked on both sides by a chain-like pattern.

    In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. In the truncation of the portrait are the initials of the British sculptor Raphael David Maklouf - 'RDM'. Behind the portrait are the Latin letters 'PM' - the mintmark of the Pobjoy Mint, Surrey, United Kingdom. Around the circumference is a wide rim bearing inscriptions in English: on the left the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II', on the right the name of the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN' and the year of issue '1987'.
