    Along the rim on both sides, an inscription in Spanish: "REYNA DE LAS ESPAÑAS" - "QUEEN OF THE SPANIARDS". The central part features the lesser coat of arms of the Kingdom of Spain - a cross, with two lions and two castles in its quarters. The rim is decorated with raised, decorative denticles.

    In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, text in Spanish: "ISABEL II POR LA GRACIA DE DIOS Y LA CONST." - "ISABELLA II BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND THE CONSTITUTION". The central part depicts the right-facing profile of Queen Isabella II. To her left is the numeral: "4", to her right - the Madrid mint mark: "M". Below is the year of issue: "1855".
