Around the edge of the coin the name of the country Eastern Republic of Uruguay in Spanish: 'REPÚBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY' and the year of minting 1857. To the left and right of the year are images of an anchor and a lion (marks of the mint director and mintmaster). The edge of the coin features decorative elements in the form of denticles.
