In the center is a right-facing profile of the chief and head of state Malietoa Tanumafili II. Below the neck truncation are the initials "HP", denoting the artist: Thomas Humphrey Paget. Along the rim is the text: "MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II SAMOA I SISIFO". Translated from Samoan: "MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II WESTERN SAMOA".
