    Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised teeth. Along the arc of the coin's edge is a Latin inscription 'PORTUGALIAE ET ALGARBIORUM REGINA', translated as 'Queen of Portugal and the Algarve'. The beginning and end of the inscription are separated at the top by a relief star. In the central part, a wreath formed by olive and oak branches, tied at the base with a bow. Inside the wreath is the Roman numeral 10 'X'. On either side of it are two six-petaled rosettes. Below is the year of minting '1833'.

    Along the arc of the coin's edge on the left, bottom, and right is a Latin inscription 'MARIA II DEI GRATIA', translated as 'Maria the Second by the Grace of God'. The beginning and end of the inscription are marked by two eight-pointed stars. In the central part is the coat of arms of Portugal: a heraldic shield crowned with an imperial crown, with sharp corners at the top. On the shield are arranged in the form of a cross five small Spanish shields with bezants; around the large shield is a wide fluted border with seven castles.
