    In the central part, a two-person dinghy is depicted sailing to the left with full sails, with two crew members hiking out. Above them, a Greek ship is depicted sailing to the right, below which is a three-line horizontal inscription in English: '1896 ATLANTA 1996'. Around the circumference along the rim on the left, bottom, and right are laurel branches, crossed at the bottom. Above the image is the text in English 'XXVI OLYMPIAD', below in two lines - '1 CROWN'.

    In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom wearing a crown. In the truncation of the portrait are the initials of the British sculptor Raphael David Maklouf - 'RDM', below the truncation the Latin letters 'PM' - the mintmark of the Pobjoy Mint, Surrey, United Kingdom. Around the circumference along the rim are inscriptions in English: on the left the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II', on the right the name of the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN' and the year of issue '1996'. Along the rim are decorative raised denticles.
