In the central part is a carved wooden bowl – a tanoa. On it lie a stirring stick for the drink and a fan. Along the lower edge in an arc is the English text 'ONE TALA' (One tala).
Obverse
In the central part is a left-facing portrait of the President of Western Samoa. Along the rim are inscriptions in English: at the top the name of the political figure 'TUI ATUA TUPUA TAMASESE EFI', at the bottom the name of the state and year of minting 'SAMOA 2011', flanked on both sides by a five-pointed star.
