In the central part, against the background of a map of the island, a left-facing fish of the herring family – an Atlantic herring – is depicted. Above the image is the date '16 – 10 - 81', below is the English text 'FOOD FOR ALL'. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top, the name of the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN', at the bottom 'HALF PENNY'.

In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. Below the truncation of the portrait are the Latin letters 'PM'. Along the rim, the English text 'Elizabeth the Second' is split into two parts: on the left 'ELIZABETH II', on the right 'THE SECOND'. Below is the year of minting '1981'.
