    Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in Creole: on the left 'LIBERTE', on the right 'EGALITE', translating to 'LIBERTY EQUALITY'. Below is the year of minting '1793', framed on both sides by raised elements in the form of dots and engravers' marks. In the central part of the reverse is a raised design of a balance scale with pans. A Phrygian cap is placed on top of the scale's beam, above a circular wreath containing the inscription '½ S', meaning '½ Sol'. Below the wreath is the mint mark for La Rochelle 'H'.
  • Obverse
    Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised denticles. Along the rim is the name of the French Republic in French: on the left 'REPUBLIQUE', on the right 'FRANÇAISE.'. In the central part, on a vertically unfurled scroll, is the inscription 'LES HOMMES SONT EGAUX LA LOI', translating from French to 'All men are equal before the law'. Above the scroll, an all-seeing eye 'shines'. On the left is a bunch of grapes, on the right are five bound ears of wheat. Below is the date according to the revolutionary calendar 'L’AN II.', corresponding to the year 1793.
