    In the central part, an inscription in two lines: 'MACUTA 1' - 1 macuta. Above the inscription is an eight-petaled flower, flanked by two four-petaled flowers. On either side of the numeral 1 are compositions of two four-petaled flowers of different shapes and dots. All of this is enclosed within a circle of dots. To the right, bottom, and left is an inscription in Portuguese: 'AFRICA. PORTUGUEZA', translating to 'Portuguese Africa'. At the top along the rim is the mint year 1860, separated from the inscription by two four-petaled flowers with dots on the sides. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.

    In the central part, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge is text in Latin: 'PETRUS.V.D.G.REGINA.PORT.ET.D.GUINEÆ', the titles of King Pedro V of Portugal. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
