    Along the rim of the coin are inscriptions in English: on the left 'TO THE HEROES OF' and on the right 'BATTLE OF MIDWAY', translating to 'TO THE HEROES OF THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY'; below '1942 - 1992', where 1942 is the year of the military operation, and 1992 is the 50th anniversary of the commemorative date and the year of issue. The central part features a scene of an aircraft attacking an aircraft carrier. Below it is the inscription 'FIVE DOLLARS'.

    The central part depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, which is a round disc with an angel framed by two interlocking chains. Along the outer edge of the disc, at the top, is the name of the state in English 'REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS', and at the bottom, the motto in Marshallese 'JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN', translating to 'Accomplishment Through Joint Effort'. Two rays emanate upward from the angel's head, between which is a twenty-four-pointed star. Above the angel's wings, on the right, is a fishing net, and on the left, a shell tool. Below the wings: on the right, a canoe; on the left, coconut palms. Below the angel is an image of a traditional Marshallese navigational chart in perspective, beneath which is an inscription on a ribbon 'Seal'. Outside the outer chain, to the left of the disc, is the sign $5, and to the right, the year of mintage '1992'.
