    Wide rim. In the central part, within a circle of smaller diameter formed by a rim, a palm tree is depicted against a sea background, with a two-masted sailing steamship to its right, sailing away over the horizon. At the top along the rim, the inscription in English: 'TWO CENTS'. At the bottom along the rim, the year of minting 1847. The inscriptions are separated by two five-pointed stars.
  • Obverse
    Wide rim. In the central part, the head of the goddess Liberty in a Phrygian cap facing left is depicted; a five-pointed star is on the cap, and the engraver's initials 'W.J.T.' for W.J. Taylor are on the truncation of the neck. To the left, top, and right along the rim, the country name Republic of Liberia in English: 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA'. At the bottom along the rim, three five-pointed stars.
