In the central part, a left-facing profile portrait of writer Charles Dickens, composed of the titles of his works in English. Below, to the left, and above along the rim are his name and years of his life in English: '1812 CHARLES DICKENS 1870'. Along the arc of the right edge is the monogram 'MD' - the engraver's mark of Matthew Dent.
Obverse
In the central part, within a circle of silver-colored metal, a right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II. Below the truncation of the shoulder is the monogram 'IRB' - the engraver's mark of Ian Rank-Broadley. Around the edge of the coin, separated by dots, are inscriptions in English: 'ELIZABETH II. D. G. REG. FID. DEF.', which translates as 'Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God Queen, Defender of the Faith'; 'TWO POUNDS' - two pounds and the issue date 2012. Around the circumferences of the rim and the inner circle are decorative elements in the form of dots.
