In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. Six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards from it, ending with 12 stars.

In the upper part, along the rim's arc in the outer ring, are 12 five-pointed stars symbolizing the Eurozone countries. On the left, in the inner circle, the names of the artist Gabriella Titotto – 'G.TITOTTO' and the engraver Luciana De Simoni – 'LDS INC.' are engraved vertically. Above is the issuing country's name in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' – 'Vatican City'. On the right is the year of issue – 2012. Below is the event name in Italian 'VII INCONTRO MONDIALE DELLE FAMIGLIE' – 'Seventh World Meeting of Families'. In the central part, an image of a parent couple and three children walking in front of Milan Cathedral and the letter 'R' – the mintmark of the Italian Mint.
