    Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top "TO THE HEROES OF DESERT" and on the right "STORM 1991", translating to "TO THE HEROES OF OPERATION 'DESERT STORM' 1991"; at the bottom "FIVE DOLLARS". In the central part is an eagle with wings raised upwards. It holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Below the eagle's tail is the "R" mint mark of the Rhode Island mint.

    In the central part is depicted the coat of arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, which is a round disc with an angel framed by two interlocking chains. Along the outer edge of the disc at the top is the name of the state in English "REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS", at the bottom is the motto in Marshallese "JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN", translating to "Accomplishment Through Joint Effort". From the angel's head, two rays extend upwards, between which is a twenty-four-pointed star. Above the angel's wings, on the right is depicted a fishing net, on the left a shell tool. Below the wings: on the right a canoe, on the left coconut palms. Below the angel is an image of a traditional Marshallese navigational chart in perspective, below it an inscription on a ribbon "Seal". Below the outer chain to the left of the disc is placed the sign $5, to the right the year of minting "1991".
