    In the central part, an inscription in four lines: 'MACUTA 1/4' - ¼ macuta, surrounded by five four-petaled flowers of two types (two and three in number) and three dots. All of this is enclosed within a circle of dots. To the right, bottom, and left is an inscription in Portuguese: 'AFRICA. PORTUGUEZA', translating to 'Portuguese Africa'. At the top along the rim is the mint year 1785, separated from the inscription by two four-petaled flowers with dots on the sides. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
  • Obverse
    In the central part, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge is text in Latin: 'MARIA.I.E.PETRUS.III.D.G.REGENTES.P.E.D.GUINEÆ', the titles of the Portuguese monarchs Maria I and Peter III. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
