Along the upper arc of the coin's edge is an inscription in Catalan 'CARLOS I REI DE PORTUGAL', translating to 'Carlos I King of Portugal'. The mint year '1892' is at the bottom, flanked by raised dots. In the central part, within a circular dotted border, is the right-facing profile of the king. Below the portrait's truncation is the engraver's signature, Valancio Alves, 'ALVES'.
